The former fishing village gained fame as a resort for Portugal's royal family in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Nowadays , it is a popular vacation spot for both Portuguese and foreign tourists.

Since the end of the eighteenth century medical doctors from several countries of Europe had advocated the therapeutical advantages of sea baths. Seaside season becomes a social event and the Portuguese Riviera transformed itself in a fashionable seaside resort and the summer residence of the portuguese Kings and court.
Combining glamour, luxury and tradition, to Estoril would come members of the European high society, such as exiled kings, writers, famous artists and bankers during the Second World War. It also became the main destination for british, japanese and german spies. Indeed this was the scenery for the creation of one of the most popular characters of the movie industry: James Bond.
During this visit we will discover the sceneries wandered by its creator, Ian Flemming and the life of the famous spy Dusan Popov, the character who inspired him to create the 007 agent in the novel, “Casino Royale” in 1952.
